Set in North Idaho’s gorgeous Selle Valley, our fields are bursting with lavender varieties that love the Panhandle’s chilly winters and sweet summers. The surrounding lakes make for pure water and rich soil, and the protected valley feels like a location from a storybook. Our 20-acre farm is home to four varieties of lavender, one giant hand-made copper still, a full bottling and drying operation, and a handful of beloved farm dogs.
My husband and I bought this farm a little over one year ago. He had grown up visiting a remote family-owned ranch in Idaho’s Bitterroot wilderness, so when we decided to move out of the city, we set our sites on Idaho. While we couldn’t re-create the special magic of his family’s ranch (an off-grid paradise with fly-in access) we chose the Selle Valley because of its gorgeous location, wide meadows, and great mountain views. When we discovered the lavender farm, it felt like the perfect fit for our goals to slow down our pace of life and enjoy our blessings, while living on land that could be productive and add to our lifestyle.
When we first moved to the lavender farm, the lavender bushes were overgrown – nearly buried by weeds and neglect. Scott walked out into the shoulder-high weeds to find the lavender that we had only glimpsed in aerial shots of the property listing. When he parted the tall grass, there was the lavender, beautiful and lush, hidden away and ready to be found.
Now, tucked away on our idyllic farm, we’re taking steps to rest and rejuvenate while spreading the love. Our lavender products are picked, distilled, and bottled with the intention that they help you find moments of peace and enjoyment in your busy day.
This is only the first full year of production at Selle Valley Lavender Farm, and we’re excited to grow. We plan to add more lavender to the land, while expanding our offerings and employing members of our community in the harvest and operations of the farm and essential oil distillery.
We grow four varieties of lavender and distill each variety in small batches in a hand-made copper still. Distilling the essential oils separately for each variety of lavender ensures that the subtle sensory notes of each type of lavender stand out – vanilla notes for the Royal Velvet lavender and hints of mint for the Folgate variety. This also means that our customers know exactly what they’re purchasing and can choose based on their desired use. For example, Royal Velvet lavender makes for an excellent culinary option, while Grosso has a stronger scent and is best used for aromatherapy. Seals Seven Oaks has been described as a pleasant medicinal smell.
We harvest each variety at the peak of its bloom, then distill it right at the farm, often within hours of harvesting. After the raw lavender stems are poured steaming from the copper still, we double-filter each batch of essential oil for purity and bottle it on-site.
We want you to have peace of mind when you purchase our products. All Selle Valley Essential Oils are crafted to be as pure and fresh as we can make them. Every batch is bottled by hand, and inspected many times over before it arrives on your doorstep. We ship each product carefully packaged and all shipping is carbon-neutral. We hope you enjoy your lavender essential oil, your lavender bunches, or you room and body spray. May the sweet scent of Selle Valley lavender bring greater ease and peace to your day.
